What is a Cochlear Implant?

The most important thing happening in our life at the moment is getting Alexander fitted with his cochlear implant.
Assuming that all goes well, we will go through the initial tuning process and, ideally, over the next year, he will start to speak.


1. The Behind The Ear (BTE) speech processor.  This works in a similar way to a hearing aid

2. The coil - this is held on to the head with a magnet and transmits the signal from the BTE processor to the internal implant

This picks up information from the coil and uses it to stimulate the aural nerve, simulating hearing.
